Your first osteopathy appointment
A simple guide to the conversation, assessment and choices at a first visit.
Start with a conversation
Your practitioner would ask about what has brought you in, relevant health history and what you would like to do more comfortably. A website form is not the place to share that history: keep it for a private appointment.
Understand the assessment
An assessment may involve observing movement and examining muscles or joints. The practitioner should explain what they propose and ask for your consent. You can ask questions, pause or decline any part.
Agree the next step
The outcome may be treatment, movement advice, a review or a recommendation to speak with another professional. Ask about the proposed approach, possible risks, alternatives and costs before deciding.
